I've never been one to hide my gaming habits I've always been surrounded by like minds. The content of the games I'd play wasn't hidden either, but I found myself through the years not necessarily hiding it, but just not disclosing it.
As I grew apart from childhood friends and into my later years I still had many friends that game but they may frown upon the amount of time played or what I was playing not understanding my passion to play. We've all had different experiences that mold us and my experiences as a young gamer have made the habit I have today. As I am sure it has with those friends, we all had shared interests but the weight I put on video games as opposed to some of our other shared hobbies like working on cars or sporting activities is different than theirs. These are my friends and I've never had to hide from them they actually are being corrupted by me and my xbox now but they'll never get to the point that I'm at that's why I love you guy and gals!
However as I said I don't openly disclose my gaming habits because I have in the past with co-workers or other peers in my community, even with some family and had to partake in a debate of time spent in video games vs time spent on Facebook or TV or at bars, the argument is always about being more productive but what's the point of arguing I play games all night and you don't so you are more valuable to society???? I'm exercising my brain I say! Some people can just be stubborn and just want to be right, and in my opinion I almost take the negative reactions to my gaming habits as jealousy because they don't have the time management skills to do the things they enjoy but I do. I still find the time to spend with my wife, starting a family, coaching youth sports year round for 10 years, work a full time job, and still make more time for all the odds and ends in the community. Even though all this is obvious to those I'm debating with I still find myself in a discussion that is pointless to me, obviously that person won't be co-op'ing with me so on to the next one!
