Get to Know the Site

Welcome to the Achievement Hound’s Web Site!

We are a small (but growing!) community of Xbox achievement hunters. If you’ve been looking for a way to have fun while increasing your Gamerscore- you’ve found the right place!

There’s a lot to do here, and it can be confusing. Hopefully this forum and thread will help you out. Anything words that are green with underlining are a link to the relevant page on the forum.

Before doing any posting please check out the User Guidelines.

1. The first thing to do is introduce yourself in the introductions forum. Tell us a bit about yourself- your Gamerscore, when you got into achievements, as well as a little bit about where you’re from and what you do outside of gaming.

2. When you post something you will notice that you will earn AP (achievement points). These function as a currency for the website. You can earn it through making posts or as prizes in competitions. You can spend it in the Achievement Hounds Shop. You can buy things to describe yourself, or real world items like used games and books.

3. Your introduction will also earn you your first medal. All the medals you can earn are found HERE. Look through them, if you have a lot of completions you might be eligible for some of the series medals. To receive any medals you are due please post in THIS THREAD. The exceptions are medals for donating to paypal and those for boosting club. Most medals also include an AP reward as well.

4. The next thing to check out is Viral Games US or Viral Games UK (Aussie version is in the works). This is a lending program for 360 games. The only cost is the postage to ship the game to the next person. Viral games has it’s own reward system known as lightning tokens. The longer you’ve been a user and the more active you are, the more games you can have at one time.

5. The Giveaways and Contest forum is where you’ll find a constantly changing assortment of competitions. These include contests run by members and staff, including our 360voice Gamerscore competitions that are held twice a month.

6. The Boosting Club is headed by a group of dedicated individuals (Boosting Coordinators), who set up official sessions and work on getting our community members achievements in multiplayer games. The games are chosen by the community and AH members are given priority in joining sessions. If you are looking to boost something you own you will want to post in the Boosting Request forum).

7. The Monthly Challenges Forumis where you will find the Achievement Hound Achievement Hunt (AHAH) and the Achievement of the Month (AoM) competitions. These are month long challenges that require you to play specific games to get specific achievements.

8. Since there’s a lot of activities here, but only so many winners every month we developed a participation reward system called “Dog Bones.” The entire post is here, but basically a Dog Bone is a token you get for doing something on the site- like being in a boosting session, responding to a book club discussion topic, or entering a competition. They are accumulative with rewards for when you reach certain numbers. Chupamama hands them out on Mondays, but you do not receive a notification. Under the user control panel “shop” tab you can choose to display them on your virtual shelf, allowing you to see how many you have earned.

9. For those that really enjoy the podcast and site, you are going to want to be a shareholder. It can be hard to get a hold of a share, they are some for sale on the user seller page of the Hound’s Shop. Occasionally you can win them, or you can contact somebody and make them an offer. Once you have a single share you are eligible for the shareholder’s group- send a pm to Moroniccow asking him to be added. You will have a green user name and be able to see the shareholder’s forum. Shareholders are asked to vote from time to time on issues that affect the site.

10. For dedicated individuals you can be come a VIP by owning 5 or more shares of stock. VIP members act as tiebreakers in shareholder votes, and they have their own contest, the Game of the Week- which MSP, AP, and stocks as prizes. The game changes every Monday.

If you have any questions not answered above, you can post in the newcomer’s question thread, or send chupaMama a pm or an e-mail to hana@achievementhounds.com
