Day 1: Ducks Beware

Hello all,

First off, how does the new site look? The site largely hasn’t changed in over two years, so I figured it was time. I also wanted to start my blog back up again, so I figured both of those went together. I’m not a huge UI person, but I think the site at least looks a lot better than it did.

For those of you that haven’t followed my blog on TA, I am going to be doing a similar format. Basically a daily blog focusing on the Xbox. Of course this will have an achievement focus to it, so ill try and impart as much knowledge as I can based on what I played. Every now and then I’ll hold a contest or two. Ever heard of the Potentially Endless Bean Dive Challenge? Look it up, its still going… 2 years later… The first contest I have, will not last that long. I can guarantee it.

After work I focused on finishing the site which took me about an hour or so. After dinner I decided to fire up good old Duck Dynasty. This copy I have from Gamefly happens to be from the Xbox 360, but I don’t really know if you could tell the difference between the Xbox One version and the Xbox 360 version. The game looks terrible and I knew I was in for it the moment the game started up. For some reason, the developers decided to cut in real TV clips with crappy rendered game versions as well. I streamed my first session on Twitch and I assume everyone that watched it thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I struggled with the first duck call because it took me forever to get down the “cadence”. It turns out that the game is a bit slow so you have to press the button before the ticker hits the button. It was pretty frustrating before finally getting that down.

The game follows “John Luke Robertson” the guy on the far left in the picture. You basically hunt, drive, fish, and sneak around with the goal of 1000 gamerscore, well maybe thats just me. I had a moment playing this game where I felt really bad. It was an early mission where you had to kill the beavers while they were running away. I have played plenty of hunting games and shot plenty of things, but this one struck a cord with me. It just felt wrong and it was weird. Not only that but I failed it a few times and the only check point was at the beginning of the level.

After some more duck killing and fishing I decided to focus on the collectibles in the game. There are a total of 3 main collectibles. Frogs, signs, and treasures are the main collectibles in the game. The treasures are only found by using a metal detector. I’m following a guide/map from Xbox Achievements and I am more than half done. Should only take about an hour to get all the collectibles (signs and treasures) frogs will probably come as you play the game.

The game has a few missable achievements that I am trying to watch out for, but I don’t know how “missable” they really are. Trying to keep track of the fish I catch and keep tabs on the other missable achievements I haven’t gotten yet. Almost 300G for about 2 hours of gameplay ain’t bad.

Well I think that is all I got. If you are new to my blog, you can tell that I can get pretty long winded on just about anything. So tomorrow when I talk about all the great progress I have made in Duck Dynasty you shouldn’t be surprised how long it is. My bet is that it is going to be less than todays.

Have you seen the latest Deals with Gold? In case you want to jump into Duck Dynasty on both the One and the 360, now is the best chance. Digital only that is. My recommendation? Still not worth the money. Rent it and send it right back.

There is another rumored sale to be coming up on the 18th. The “Ultimate Game Sale” is back. Xbox Achievements posted an article today about it here. They link an image that was captured for all the Xbox One sales and I have to say, there is some good stuff on there. I will be picking up quite a few games to continue to grow my digital librarmy.

The ScreamRide demo is out on the Xbox One marketplace. Anyone check it out? It looks interesting. I am very curious to see what people think about it.

I think I am pretty well gased out, and it is past my bed time. So a few parting things. First, hope everyone likes the updated site, next up is the forums. Second, please if you haven’t already check out our forums. We have a great community of people and a lot of awesome things happen on a day to day basis there. Third, Check out the podcast, please? Finally, to celebrate my return to blogging, I will be doing a random drawing. Anyone who comments on this post will be entered into a drawing for a $10 Xbox giftcard. Ideas for comment material: Site thoughts, blog thoughts, duck dynasty thoughts, screamride thoughts, and deals thoughts.

Set up is cool. Will the forums be getting an upgrade too? After one year here – I think I’m finally used to the current layout.

Now that you are going to dip your toe into significant gaming again – will you partake in other site contests?

Great to see you guys back in action. With the community podcast going on as well, I get double the amount of podcasts which is awesome. The site remodeling however, is a little bit too bright for my taste. I did like the previous design better, both the overall brightness (or lack thereof) as well as the easy-to-navigate buttons. So, in FIFA terms: Don’t change a winning team. :-)

Keep going and all the work is appreciated!

I might have to pick up Duck Dynasty right after I finish Farming Simulator and Deadliest Catch. I love the new look.
